So my buddy might be getting some money for a gaming PC and I just wanted to see what yall thought about the builds I came up with.... nothing too crazy but I think they'll be great.... I was thinking about going with a Pentium G3258 for it's OC capabilities... but he wants a quad core and I don't blame him.... Eventually He'll get a water cooler(Most likely a Corsair H55 or H60) So he can get better overclocks... I was thinking about doing a $500 build for him and getting a 960 and using a Corsair H60 and the aftermarket bracket to mount it to the GPU to cool it better, but that'll be down the road a bit

Improve upon them or share your own build... His budget is around $300 and I told him that'd I'd throw down some cash too so maybe $400

My suggestion.

Better cpu
Better everything tbh, 260x is better than 750ti

For future overclocking get a cheaper air cooler h55 and h60 are crap for the money.

Also liquid cooling a 960 is retarded.

Yeah I was borderline on the 260x bc they had about the same performance.... I found a GTX 750 SC for $102 which looks like (Watched some gameplay) and it seems to do alright....

Yeah it was a pretty stupid Idea to do... kinda for shits n giggles for the both of us to have a super cool card..... and I just read the specs between the r7 260x and the gtx 750 SC.... They were the same price but I changed it to the 260x on a better build I made.... Intel CPU's usually have a better performance per core than AMD but I'l keep your build in mind

My other buid that I had the GTX 750 SC on....

It has a G3258 but we're tryna decide whether to go with AMD or Intel....I was gonna buy him an after market cooler so he could come from 3.2GHz to 4.5GHz...ishhh.... Imma try to find a decent closed loop on the cheap on craigslist or some shit

The problem with the g3258 is that you sort of need more than 2 cores for a lot of games and the 860k may not have the same per core performance but it's a great cpu

This is a valid point... Hence why I said, I'd keep your build in mind.... but games like skyrim and battlefield 3 run fine on a g3258, plus further down the line we can pick up a i5 or something since the board is LGA 1150... not worried about tryna overclock an i5 since the performance is already great.... plus it's have to be a K model to overclock

Why are you asking about 260x vs GTX 750? I've already told you, a few times, that the 260x out-performs the GTX 750. The 260x is the better card. I've also told you, several times, that the 860k makes much more sense than a G3258. There is no reason to get a G3258 unless you're upgrading the CPU very soon, to something like an i5. Some games will refuse to launch with the G3258, and with DX12 coming, we're only going to see more support for more cores/threads.

Bad idea, both shit.

860k.

Hmm, well you have no idea if you'll even be able to get 4.5GHz out of the chip. You could get a 3.5GHz OC and not be able to get any more out of the G3258 you get. You can OC the 860k anyway, too, and it's per core performance is similar to the G3258, but it has 4 cores.

My bad dude, I had went ahead and changed the cpu to the 860k and the gpu to the 260x, I thought I had made a post on here with it but I guess not, I was on a slow ass laptop the night I did this... Yeah I research both the cpu and the gpu and they were the better choice... It was cheaper too... Good thing I posted here before we bought the parts, we still have a few months to figure out a budget and what not
