Some of you will be VERY happy to see this post lol. I'm toying with the idea of selling my pride and joy that is my Laptop and getting a PC.

It would be great if you could give me three options.

I would like:
  • Cheap option - 400.00 GBP

  • Middle option - 600.00 GBP

  • Expensive Option - 1000.00 GBP

I already have 2 screens (Asus VS228DE), mouse and keyboard (Razer Death Stalker) so just looking for the tower.

Seeing what I can get for these amounts will determine whether I say goodbye to "The Beast".

Cheers guys

How much difference are we talking between the 600 & 1000 builds? If its minimal then I will go for the 600 but if its a case of 360 gfx vs xbox one for example then I will go for 1000.

(That's IF I sell the beast)

The £600 with the 380 wont last as long with only 2GB VRAM, where as the 1k build with the 390 (8GB VRAM) will last a year or 2 as no game uses that much just yet.

The VRAM is almost irrelevant. It's the architecture that matters.

The difference between the 2 won't be masses when playing at 1080p, more VRAM helps when you crank the games up to 1440p and 4k, but you don't have any plans of that do you?

Have A look through these benches to see how much performance we're talking. The 390X is a tad faster than the 390 so assume the 390 scores are about what you're looking for.

TL;DR It won't be that much of a step up like the One was to the 360.

The 380 is a strong enough card that should last you 2-3 years until an upgrade might be needed.

That's putting it way too simply. It's only true to a certain extent. VRAM is far from irrelevant, it's becoming especially more useful recently. The extra 2GB can actually be handy and the difference isn't that minimal, it's a few FPS difference at 1080p, typically.

Under budget but there's no real need to spend more than that really, other than for aesthetics.

Well 2GB of VRAM is fine for 1080p, hell i use 2GB at 4k. I was just skipping over the technicalities since we don't really need to go into all that.

It can help in some games, but the difference is minimal.

Yeah, I was just pointing out that your answer, though correct, was a little vague and that it goes a little deeper than that. But yeah, pretty much. The 4GB 380 is definitely worth the premium over the 2GB 380 though. It does give a decent little boost in more recent games. 3GB VRAM should be the norm for mid ranged cards tbh, and 6GB for high end cards.
