I am building a computer from old parts off craigslist and there is an i5 dual core for $50 but there is an Intel core 2 quad for $50 also. So should I go with the quad core or the dual core? I don't know if the Intel quad core comes with hyper threading but I know the i5 does. What should I go with? This system will be used for light gaming and work.

The i5 will be much newer, and even though it has fewer cores it still may perform better than the core 2 quad.

The core 2 quad was release in Q2 or 2008, and the i5 is more than likely a 2010 or newer model.

If you have the exact model of the i5, that would be awesome as we would be able to post the benchmarks of each processor.

Believe I found the i5 processor you are talking about, Quick benchmark between the two here

Depends on the specific CPU's in question. Sounds like an i5-650, which is 5 years old but not sure which Core 2 Quad you're talking about, there are several that it could be. Could be a Q6700, Q8400, Q8400S, Q9400, Q9400S or Q9450. The 650 is a dual core with hyperthreading btw. Either way, why are you looking at such old CPUs? You'd be better off with an entry level CPU or APU rig with more up to date components.
