So lets just say that a steam card wasn't scanned at the cash register.

Is there any homegrown way of 'activating' it?

Not really sure but I would assume there wouldn't be as its a security thing that the cards must be activated by a retailer.

Thats what I assumed as well, also came to a conclusion that maybe those 'barcode scanning' apps you can get on your phone might do it but once I put some thought into it, I don't believe it would work.


I've also heard something about a magnet? Hmm I don't know.

Maybe there is actually a way! Crossing my fingers on this.

sounds kinda sketchy to me, you could always bring it to a retailer and say you lost your receipt and your card wasn't activated during your "purchase" but that's a long shot

no scanners at registers need to activate it.

if you steal the gift card and were to even some how activate it the store you STOLE them from could report you as that is theft.
