I suppose it's all in what you call abuse. As far as dogs, they need to know you are the leader of the pack and they will challenge that (digging when they know not to, chewing siding off the house, etc.) If I see my dog digging in places where he knows he shouldn't be, I shove his face in the dirt and throw a little dirt on him (not suffocating him). Same thing if he poops in the house without wining at the door, I will put it face on the floor by it and tell him bad boy. Some people say that's abusive, but my dog doesn't dig in the garden, and he is potty trained.

Well I am totally against animal abuse but if my dog were to poop or cat where there not suppose to then I will just give them a little hit on the back for them not to do it again.
