Fair enough with the CPU and Motherboard choice there, definitely saves some money (minus the clock speed of course). However the R9 285 is pretty much the same price as the GTX 960 and the performance across both is effectively the same for both cards. If you look at multiple user reviews of who have both it's mainly down to which games you play more and the power consumption.

By saving money on the different CPU + Motherboard option you can actually pick up a Coolermaster kit of a case and power supply for £70, saving slightly more meaning OP could probably pick up a HDD for about £10 just over the £500 budget, probably worth it for the SSD performance but also the space available for games and so on.

As for the mouse powering the system, I've once put together a system for a friend in which he bought a case with a PSU (not Coolermaster) and it ran perfectly fine and he's had no issues with it as I'd normally hear if he did! Obviously you wouldn't go for something like that if you had a reasonable budget.

The 960 and 285 are not "effectively" the same card, at all. The 285 is a 380. The 960 is basically an overclocked GTX 950. R9 285 is a far better choice than a 960. The 285 is also just as efficient as the 960, if not, more so.

It's definitely not worth OP picking up a cheap case with a shitty included PSU, I've already explained that.

£500 is a reasonable budget. Even £200 rigs don't need cheap, shit PSUs. PSUs are arguably the most important component, considering a shit PSU can kill your entire rig. So, no, OP should not buy a case with an included PSU, since they're almost always terrible quality.

The 960 and 285 give near enough the same frame rate (give/take a few frames on either card) for gaming. The max power consumption on the 285 is more than 960 which is what I was talking about. I'm for both on this and it's really up to OP to look over what the system is going to be for and also pricing before going for one or the other.

The case set (£70) which I was recommending in the first place comes with a Cooler Master case (£20) and the PSU is the G550M (£50) which isn't shitty at all man. I'm aware that one of these unbranded PSU's can completely wreck a system, hence why going for the Cooler Master option of a good case and power supply.

I'm pretty sure the whole point of this section is to help people out when it comes to PC building and everyone giving ideas towards the users new system. We found out your CPU + Motherboard choice saves OP money without giving much away and we managed to save OP some money under his budget with the Cooler Master K350 set which is the same brand as the case you had PartPicker and a good PSU. With that saving OP would be able to get the HDD and together we managed to get the cost within the budget.

The R9 285 out-performs the GTX 960, that's a fact. Whether or not the 960 is close behind, is irrelevant. The 285 is a better card. Everyone thinks the GTX 960 is a very efficient card, but actually, both a 960 and 285 will use close to 200W. The 285 is the wiser decision, the 960 is a terrible choice. As I've said, an overclocked GTX 950 is £30 cheaper and will match the performance of a 960, and will be more efficient, so there's your efficiency argument down the toilet.

You never linked anything. Your prices from your "suggestion" were all off anyway, and I can't find this case and PSU bundle you're talking about. The G550M uses CWT OEM, and has cheap Chinese capacitors. Regardless, spending £70 on a cheap case and PSU is moronic, it makes less than zero sense.

"We" never managed to anything. I suggested a good rig for OP. The K350 is not a good case, it's cheap. Just because it's the same brand as the case I suggested, doesn't mean it's good. That's not how anything works. Oh, and the 550W PSU wouldn't support XFire. OP would save money getting the better case that I suggested, and a good quality PSU instead of the bundle you still haven't shown us. So, no, their is no reason to spend £70 on a shitty case and PSU bundle.
