So I have been in love with the Asus GeForce STRIX GTX 970 4GB but I just found the AMD Radeon R9 390 8GB and I was just wondering like what would be better for gaming. I won't be overclocking most likely quite yet but I still want a good card. Their around the same price too and the specs look almost the same except for the memory. What do you guys think?

I Just watched a video and was wondering the same thing and here is the link- [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

From what I can tell the overall better card is the 390 but take into consideration like it says in the video AMD drivers will not be as updated as Nvidia as the card just came out. Hope this helps this is my build i am getting ready to go with! [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The 390 is a better choice. As of right now, the AMD drivers are a bit more stable, I've heard. The 390 also has better DX12 support.

AMD is never reliable. Stick with the 970.

so much bias
AMD is fine, I ran AMD cards for 2 years and AMD CPU for 3 and not had an issue at all.

AMD CPUs are prone to overheating. They're more of a value brand if you're trying to save some money. That's why they usually have more memory for a lower price. If you want performance stick with the 970 but if you're trying to save a couple bucks then the AMD would do the trick. But keep in mind, most AMD cards don't have a sensor to sense if it's overheating. They'll keep running until they, basically, melt.

The 390 will get you better performance in games.

And the 970 will consume less power and stay cooler while doing so.

So if the extra few FPS natters to you, grab a 390.

They will actually run at near identical temps the 390 has a beefier cooler and the strix is designed to be quieter.

We're not talking about CPUs. If he wants performace, the 390 is the better choice. Its not even much hotter than the 970 anyways.
