Just to be on the safe side it's worth me double checking. I would like to buy the second one because its sold and despatched by Amazon so I can use Prime. It just has fewer details and no reviews.
Thanks

They look very similar, but one has some detail where the other has different details. Hard to say for certain, but my recommendation overall is to still jsut go with i5, i7 is pretty much unnecessary over kill and most of the time, it just digs a deeper hole in your pocket m8

If he has the budget to make this purchase it would be highly recommended he do so rather than getting an i5. Games that are being released in the next few years will need a better Cpu to run and it will save him from needing to upgrade for a while

I did have a look at the product details and realised the model number is slightly different, not sure if it was a typo but one is:

BXF80646I74790K

and the other is

BX80646I74790K

Also the weight and picture of the box is different

This is the exact reason I am getting an i7, would make more sense

i7s are more used for editing and CPU heavy tasks than for gaming. It is completely unecessary tbh. If you have the budget, go for it, but its a waste if you're just gaming. An i5 will be more than enough for games for at least 2-3 years, especially the 'K' version for overclocking.

If you buy an i7 now for gaming and "future proofing", it wouldnt make too much sense.

An i7 is not a "waste". Although, future proofing isn't a thing. Technology is improving daily, it's impossible to know how long the hardware will stay relevant for. Don't waste £25 just to get the chip from Amazon though.

It's cheapest from Aria, the second cheapest place to buy the 4790k is your first link.
