I'd at least try and come up with something to write or at least bullshit it as best as I can. Just say that you tried your best on it but couldn't find anything really helpful to create a valid argument. Or something along those lines haha

yes he's right..BUT the teacher will give you a failing mark if you don't do it.
For example, it's like some hardcore christian refuses to take a biology test, in his required biology class, the teacher won't say "oh its fine i will excuse you" its "you don't have to do it, but i can't hand you a free A"
