As I am in year 10 now (UK) I am now doing my options for my GCSEs.

I chose Computer science, business and PE

Learned a load of stuff so far and hopefully will soon learn to code

- I want to make awesome tools like _Skittle's and MXGP's

;)

Best of luck! I've been doing computing and i'm on my second year for a level (In Year 13). Prepare to work hard, because there's no doubt that this is one of the toughest subject for sure. I enjoyed it at the beginning, but i'm getting a little tired of it now, but that's all personal preference.

Do you know what language your school is using?

Meh, the computing science course doesn't cover much 'advanced' programming - for example a key assessment for my Higher was quite literally to read data from a CSV file in a language of my choice (used C# due to development environment limitations - would've used C++ or Java - lol - school teaches VB but you can use whatever lang you want as long as you have a working program - shame I can't represent my C# code in pseudo-code since the pseudo-code standard in my country doesn't support the features of C# that I used and that's the requirement for the assessments #designnotation).

Once you're a proficient programmer you'll be able to make tools like Skittle's or MXGPs since they're tools particularly advanced or 'difficult'.

Good luck with your course, OP. The one thing you'll realize after becoming a proficient programmer (essentially being able to make anything you put your mind to and possibly research before hand along with experience of most class APIs or whatever depending on the language you're doing) that the main motto for designing software is "Anything worth doing, is worth doing right" - this refers to practicing proper conventions and SOLID principles and whatnot when designing software. Sorry for going kinda off-topic.

tl;dr - have fun op

Just saying, my tool you could make in a matter of minutes with C#, I did Computer Science and we did Java and Python. Java in which is fairly similar to C#. I would just find out what languages you will be learning in your classes and then go from there. it's always good to have a head start.

Thanks for the input guys! We use codeacademy and I have learned a small amount on Python. Not too sure what language we will be doing yet, will ask tomorrow.

I really want to learn how to make tools like MCGP and _Skittle hehe

Won't be too hard for you to do if you're committed. Their tools are actually rather trivial (not trying to disrespect, I'm sure they'd agree with me).

Starting my 3rd year in college for Cyber Security. Just take your time when you begin to write code. Nothing is more frusterating then making a simple mistake and having it take you 15mins to realize you messed up on the smallest thing. Take it step by step and dont spend 6-10hrs a day like I did. Got old real fast. But after that I turned to networking and couldnt be happier.

I agree, I'm a basic programmer you could make a tool like mine using google. If you ever want the source to my tool or anything just message me and I'll walk you through it.

I've just started college and just finished the exact same course and left with an A*. If the exam board is AQA send me a message if you need any help.
