Is my rant off base?

No, lots of players are like this and I agree that it is annoying and what not.

The problem is, you started up a competitive match without even knowing how to play. Which means that the people who you were playing with, more than likely had a rank, and you are ruining the game for them, hence the salty attitude. You need to play casual and learn the game first, even just to extent that you won't be compared to a bot is fine.

You must remember that if you join a comp barely knowing anything about the game, you are ruining it for others who want to play competitively.

I have people like that all the time I just dont listen to them and play my game and focus on me because if I listen to them I play worse but I usually end up doing better than them in the end, if they are really annoying, the voice_enable command works wonders!

Don't listen to what they say, they will blame it on you because they are getting salty as they are losing

No. When people play comp games, they are placed in games with people of the same rank. He is not 'ruining' the game at all, his teammates obviously aren't good enough to win themselves.

Im like you,

i recently got my first build and was drawn to the CS comp scene.

I tried it out and loved it. So i have won 20 matches and i am Gold Nova 4. I love learning and progressing in the game. All the team-mates i have been matched with have been ok.

Even people who are doing when i haven't have made the match easier for me by telling how to play so i can get a few easy kills to build my confidence. The great thing about CS is Kills isn't everything. If you enter a building and injure 3 people but dont get a kill it makes your teams job 10 times easier. The game is soooooo much more complex than the leader board stats so i recommend you keep checking it like i did to be begin with.

During the rank placement process, you are placed with a variety of ranks, with people who have been playing a while, whether that be silver or nova, it is still a rank that has been earned. I'm not saying don't play comp until your good, because that would be ridiculous, but the whole idea for comp is for people to play as a team and work towards a win. That won't happen if you don't even know the calls.

How do you expect someone who has just started playing the game to be able to communicate and play at the same level as their teammates who could be higher ranks?

Casual exists for a reason.

Casual exists for a reason.

I will never learn anything continually playing casual. Casual is a bunch of people either just messing around, or super high skill players smurfing and carrying. I want to get better at the game, learn callouts, etc etc

The only way for me to that is to jump into competitive and actually learn it. I just wish that players treated it like a game instead of something bigger. It is just a game, I am just trying to have fun doing it, ya know?

This is the reason i'm Rank 16 from casual and un-ranked in competitive. It's a shame but all e-sports have a terrible community in competitive modes.
