Samsung S5 would be my first choice, but never had a HTC.

iPhone is around the level of a S3.

Iphone 5Cs break easily. Its back casing is made of polycarbonate a.k.a plastic. One drop and it would crack unless you put a lifeproof case on it. I've never used an Android phone so I dunno what to say about HTC and Samsung S5. I just heard that S5's camera takes produces really crisp photos.

iPhones are for people that like ease of use, and prefer not to have any kind of access to the actual system. Better security since their ecosystem is closed source. User interface tends to be much smoother, less clutter on the screen. No bloatware factory installed by the cell carrier.

Android devices are preferred by enthusiasts, people that like lots of customization, expandable memory, and more access to the system. It's also an open source ecosystem so you can download apps from other places besides the google play app store. 99% of all android phones have bloatware factory installed, though most is able to be disabled,
alot is not.

I have no strong preference over one or the other. I buy a new phone every 12 months and I typcially switch between the highest end Samsung phone (always their Note phones, I cannot do anything smaller than a 5.5" screen) and the top end iPhone.

Why would you get an S5 if you can get an S6? But S5 if you can't get the S6.
