Hey guys,

I see that people have been struggling with FUT this year and thought I'll make a nice guide to help people out.
In this guide I'll be covering a variety of things in Ultimate Team such as Formations and Playstyles.

Also leave comments and any suggestions on anything else you need help in FUT that I can add into the guide.

Formations

Despite what people say, there is no formation that is going to make you a god. Yes there are formations that are stronger than others. When picking a formation you got to take into account what players you are going to use. There is no use playing a lone striker formation if you are using a weak striker. Yeah sometimes it will be ok, but you will get more results using a stronger striker that can hold up play. Here are some popular formations and my quick review on them.
41212
This formation can be used for all styles. Possession, crossing, counter attacking etc..
Go with any back 4 and wingers of your choice. Having good passing and crossing with your wingers is a huge advantage. Your CDM and CAM are crucial, go with a strong CDM, someone like De Rossi, that can pass, defend and have a pop at goal. Your CAM holds the formation together. Pace is not a issue here. Players like Totti have done well for me. You need someone who can play a pass, dribble and shoot. You can choose what ever strikers you like, but a Big and Small combo do work the best.
352
Formation that does have great midfield control. You must have 3 CB with HIGH defensive work rate and DO NOT have HIGH attacking. The middle one ideally is a tall and pace isn't really a issue. So a John Terry, Vidic can get away playing there. Bonnuci is a great option also. Wide CB, I say over 60 pace and good strength is a huge plus. Your CDMs, I like to have one that is pure defensive and the other either a box to box. De Rossi and Nianggolan isa good example. Just a brute and a guy who runs about like a chook with his head cut off. As for your wingers, go for someone that at least has medium defensive work rate. Asamoah (Look at all these Serie examples) is probably the perfect player. But even a true goal scoring winger can do well here as long as the do not have H/L. As for the CAM and ST, go for the same as the 41212, CAM being play maker and any ST of your choosing.
433
Covering all 433s here. Any back 4 you like. CMs always go for all rounders here. CDMs, yet again brutes such as a De Rossi. CAMs go for playmakers. Wingers must be able to score and create chances and your striker must have decent strength.
Flat 433, 433 (4) and 433 (5) is what I recommend. If you want to use a weak striker and he has decent passing use him in a False 9. The 433 ideally plays possession. Gives you 3 midfielders which create safe passing and options out wide to work it all over the field. My favourite at the moment is the 433 (4). Got box to box CMs, wingers that can score, Hamsik at CAM and Mandzukic at ST.
4231 (2)
This is the last formation to round of the popular ones. This formation is heavy possession ideally. You really got to be very patient and make full use of your chances. I like to play quick passing and aggressive possession which is why this formation did not really work put for me this FIFA (although I loved it last FIFA).
Any back 4 you like, go with a brute CDM and either a box to box for the other or a deep-lying playmaker. (Pirlo, Verratti etc..) Having one of your CDMs over 6 foot does help. Yet again, with the wingers, ones that can do it all. Score and create chances. CAM, go for a play maker, pace does not matter. For ST you can go for a big target man or use a quicker striker. The quicker striker must have good dribbling though. Dybala or Tevez are good examples.

How To Play

How to play is simple. Pele gave us the answer, and that is to Play Beautiful. We all know pace isn't a huge factor and players like me that enjoy keeping the ball love it since we no longer get smashed on the counter attack by people who pace abuse and just do lob through balls. You have to adapt, it took me a solid 15-20 games to finally get the hang of it. Firstly you have to figure out how you want to play before you choose your formation, then pick your players based on the formation. Example, for me I like to play shorts passes and have wing play so I went for the 433 (4) and built my team around that.
When playing you have to be patient. Do not force a pass or play a long ball if it is not on. I like to use the 'Driven Pass' feature a lot. Always look for the simple pass. Only play the harder pass if you reckon you can make it. It is hard to explain, but what I like to do is as soon as I get the ball, I play it out of my back line (Unless a counter attack is on) then I move the ball up to my striker by stringing short passes. By the time my striker gets it, I'm in the attacking third, or at least over halfway. By doing this is gets my players back into position so if I do turn it over I wont get bent over. So my advice to you is to be patient, do not always sprint and play beautiful.

Defending

Defending is easier this year, thank you EA for giving them brain cells. Yeah every now and then there is a aids moment, but it is a video game. I went into my settings and switched my defending to Legendary since I do prefer that style. I do not see that penalty bs no where near as much since using it as well.
When defending and a attacker is running at you, you do not have to sprint out to meet the attacker. Make him make the decision. If you sprint out you are leaving gaps in your back line and stretching your defense. Instead, (I like to hold LT so I can face them) just carol the attacker. Preferably I like to make chase with my midfielders, if I can not get there, then I use my back 4 and guard the space. I want to force them to make a decision. SO to sum it up, do not sprint to meet the attacker, carol them and force them to make a choice. Make a tackle when the opportunity is there.

Summary

If you are struggling. Think about how you want to play.
If you like wing play, use a 433. (any)
If you like total midfield domination and slow build up 4231 (2)
If you like to cross go for a 433 (any)
If you like to dominate midfield go for a 352
If you are just unsure or want a bit off all, go for a 41212

Personally I do not like formations like 4222, 4231, 4312. I need wingers to help me attack. My favourite is the 433 (4). Gives me a lot of chances to score has wing play and effective in possession.

Play Patiently
Before you play a game. Think of how you want to play, pick a formation that suits that playstlye then buy players that will excel in that position.
