Is the update to Windows 10 worth it? My best friend said it screwed up his PC and I've been kinda spooked to just stay on 8.1. Any thoughts?

I upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop and it was good for about a week then it started to overheat. My laptop isn't amazing but it can handle games at a fairly good resolution without the frame rate being awful. On Windows 10 I couldn't even watch a YouTube video without it overheating. Since reverting back to 8.1 it's been fine.
The downgrade is really simple so you may as well upgrade, see how you like it and if there's an problems go back to 8.1

When I downloaded it after a few days my computer completely broke and wouldn't turn on due to overheating, had to take it back to the shop for a repair and they just factory restored it and put it back to Windows 8.1, I did like it but it's not worth the hassle 8.1 is good enough for my needs.

It's up to you but I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. The update itself was flawless however soon after that problems occurred so I done a fresh install of Windows 10 which fixed most problems.
You're more likely to get problems if you upgrade instead of a fresh install.

Getting advice from people on a forum with all different Pcs is really hard as all Pcs will react differently, Ive been on the preview of Windows 10 since day one and it has been amazing, I would suggest that if you have a decent Pc, Make sure to update all manufacturer drivers from their site, make a system image of your computer, Upgrade to Windows 10 and then install a clean version of Windows 10, That way if you have any issues you know it didn't carry over from your previous OS,

I went from windows 8.1 to 10 and after about 4 days I booted my PC and had a fatal error.
I re-installed 8.1 and i'm staying with it.
