I don't think minimum wage should EVER be $15.00. People who choose to not go to college, that is their fault. Let's be honest, if you try in school, you have plenty of opportunities to get scholarships. There is a college in NC that will try their best so that you will graduate debt free. I agree, some people have harder situation, I am extremely fortunate I am not necessarily faced with that situation. But, if people stop being lazy, they can do whatever they want (go to college, be a millionaire).

The sad fact is most of us can't afford a college education. The other thing is most of us don't want to go into debt over 100k and not have a guaranteed job with good pay. A lot of college students don't have jobs right now.

As crazy as it seems, I promise if people put in effort, they can grab a full academic ride. Also, from what I have heard, there are colleges across the United States that are like Davidson. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Yes, going to college is stressful and difficult. You are dropping a crap ton of money, but I HATE when someone says "I can't go to college" when they really can if they TRY.

We really can't. Hell I live in my grandparents house. Not everyone can get a scholarship. Think, if colleges handed out scholarships freely, how would they make money to stay open? It doesn't happen. I absolutely cannot go to college. I can't afford it, and I won't be able to any time soon. If I could, I could also afford to buy a house.
Less than 20,000 students a year receive a completely free ride to college. Among full-time college students enrolled at four-year colleges, just 0.3% received enough grants and scholarships to cover the full cost of college. The odds of gaining an athletic scholarship are just 0.7%. Having a high SAT score does increase your odds. Still, only 13% of students with 1,300-to-1,400 scores get money. The total amount of student loan debt in the United States now exceeds the total amount of credit card debt in the United States. Federal statistics reveal that only 36% of the full-time students who began college in 2001 received a bachelors degree within four years. According to the Economic Policy Institute, the official unemployment rate for college graduates younger than 25 years old was 9.3% in 2010. 33% of all college graduates end up taking jobs that don't even require college degrees. In the United States today, there are more than 100,000 janitors that have college degrees. In the United States today, 317,000 waiters and waitresses have college degrees. Those are facts.

My mother came to the states with nothing but a few words of english. She now makes as much as anybody with a degree does. Its about working your way up. Minimum Wage isn't meant to support family living let alone self living. You need to work for it. Yes i understand college is not an option for some people. my mother had nothing but high school education and one year of college. She is now successful and does not have a college degree. Just work for it.

You clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about lmfao. You're like 15, stop pretending you know anything about the real world. College is not the be all, and end all.

ProJimmyRustler wrote This would probably get more attention if you wrote it a bit more coherently.
Besides what you think, many people simply do not have the resources or the ability to attend college. College is not the end all be all. A degree does not get you a job. It just makes you more eligible for a job.
This is one of the issue people do not seem to understand. And like you mentioned. Some of these people are trying to support kids while working at these low paying jobs. If they are struggling to begin with, how are they going to afford a degree from a college if money is already tight?
College, on average is 25,000$ a year, that is including room and board, at least 12 hours of class, a poor estimate on how much books cost, and some other expenses.
Sure they have community college, which is cheaper, but you get the point. Government assistance for college is really dependent on your income. If your family makes too much money, you get noting. If your family makes not enough money, you still don't get what you need to attend classes. There is a certain thresh hold that people have to be in for the loans and grants to even be enough to help.
And even then there is the time aspect. These people are supporting families and working a job(s).
Unless you have a better excuse than saying that these people need to just go to college, then just stop. I am fortunate enough to get the opportunity to go to college. I know the reality of financial aid needed to attend college.
They are not asking for more money just because they think they should make more money while working in fast food. They are asking for the minimum wage, which is determined by the government to be enough to make by on, to be raised so that they can make a livable wage.
I am on the fence about it, I can take it or leave it, just know more about the topic before you make yourself look like a total dumbass.
TL;DR: OP has no Idea what he is talking about. College doesn't give you a job. It just makes you more likely to get one. Not everyone can afford it.
I completely agree with all your points. What I don't agree with is that people who currently make minimum wage should be able to make 32k a year with just flipping burgers and picking up trash. Unless they are going to raise the difference in other peoples wages then it wouldn't be fair. Someone doing a job that requires actual skills and assets such as a mechanic should naturally make more than someone who puts my lunch into a wrapper and hands it to me out the window. And if the minimum wage were raised to $15 an hour the burger flippers of the world would be making the same wage or more than the average lower level mechanic (1 or 2 certifications and definitely isn't ASE Certified as a master mechanic). I am strongly apposed to the idea of the minimum wage increase to $15. If you want to make more money, acquire some more valuable skills. You don't have to go to college to educate yourself.

You have no clue of how the woman was brought up. she needs to provide for her family no matter what. What if she was fortunate enough for a good education when she was growing up.

Vega wrote I agree McDonalds shouldn't deserve a rate of $15 an hour, however my Girlfriend is a McDonalds Employee in the UK She is 17. She earns £4.60GBP per hour.
Having seen her working myself, it can be a very hectic job. With lots of running around, and managing multiple tasks within a very short time-span.
It's a job that does require minimal to average Skill. You have to be able to remain calm, deal with multiple orders and problems and and be able to communicate strongly to your team members when under stress or when giving orders.
But to say that working at McDonalds is "barely a job" is utterly ridiculous.
May i ask how old she is?
