Terror group Islamic State has released a propaganda image of what it claims is the explosive device that was responsible for the downing of the Russian airliner in Egypt last month.
ISIS published the photo of the improvised explosive device in the latest issue of its monthly magazine Dabiq on Wednesday, along with images of passports of Russians it claims were on board the plane.

The image which has not been independently verified shows a beverage can and what appears to be a homemade explosive and detonator.
The Kremlin said on Tuesday that a bomb brought down the Metrojet airliner over Egypt's Sinai desert last month.
Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to find and punish those responsible and ordered an increase in airstrikes on Syria for the attack that killed all 224 people on board, mainly returning Russian holidaymakers.

Explosives all have different blast radius, also it would have obviously cause the pressured cabin to be exposed to air which would cause problems such as the plane crashing..

Im confused how that even made it through airport security... seems like it would be an obvious stop...
and any bomb can take a plane down.. When the inside loses pressure the the plane will go off track and eventually crash unless a pilot can successfully land it.

We're gonna have crazy airliner regulations enforced pretty soon if it isn't already that bad from all of this hate mongering terrorism from ISIS.
Why can't we all just get a long?

I'm no explosives expert or airplane engineer, but I don't think it's too hard to see how even a small bomb in the right place could cause a plane to break apart. Other combustible things in the area might have also exploded, and once a plane has a hole in its side the force of the air rushing in would probably be enough to rip the back end off.
This is all just speculation though.

Pan Am Flight 103 was taken down by explosives packed into a walkman in 1988. I'm sure explosives have come a long way.
