Boar wrote As a sufferer of insomnia at times I've been awake for near enough a week on more than one occasion and it sucks.

The longer you stay awake the harder it is to go asleep until eventually you feel like you will never get to sleep.

The way I go to sleep in times like this is I do a breathing exercise and it puts me out pretty hard after some time. Just turn off all lights, make your room dark, make sure you're not too hot then you can start.

Lay down, close your eyes and inhale for 4 seconds, then hold your breath for 7 seconds and exhale through your mouth for 8 seconds. Repeat this focusing on your breathing and it will put you to sleep before you realize it.

Seems like something that could work. I'll give it a go.

Good luck falling asleep, man. I have no advice to offer because the same thing happens to me, and I just wait until I can fall asleep. Nothing really helps.

As an insomniac, melatonin is your friend.

The hormone can be used as a sleep aid and in the treatment of some sleep disorders. It can be taken orally in liquid form as well as capsules or tablets in immediate- or prolonged-release form. It is also available in a form to be used sublingually, and as transdermal patches. Melatonin is sold over-the-counter in the U.S. and Canada. In other countries it may require a prescription or it may be unavailable.

When I cannot sleep, I take melatonin, it helps a shit ton. I believe it's organic, but not too too sure. Regardless, works like a charm. I have insomnia and I have very little problems with it. Best of luck!

Open the window, down a cold drink and get a cushion rather than a pillow.

When I can't sleep, I listen to some music or the radio on low volume and it sends me to sleep, try that if you haven't already.
