what if he doesn't earn that much?
the i3 would be a better choice as he can then throw a Xeon in later on.
I'm not saying the 860K is bad because it is a great CPU for the price point but in a situation like a budget build it would be a bit wiser to sacrifice a few FPS for a little while until he can afford an i5/i7/xeon than to have a few more FPS but have to spend a lot more money to upgrade a socket.

Buxtyy wrote The main thing for me is the big picture scenario again, yes the 860K might be better performing now but once the OP finds out how easy it is to build and upgrade then its likely not going to be long before more money finds its way into computing.
These days I just don't see many applications for AMD processors...i3's perform better than you'd think if you use them for gaming.
I know i3's are good, but the extra £50 or so, could go a long way in terms of a better GPU. I'd take the 860k option, for the OC'ing and better GPU. Sure, i3 has the better upgrade route, and performs better than the 860k, but for gaming, 860 with a better GPU, is going to be better. OP could potentially get an i3 with a Z170 board and some DDR4 RAM, if he can find a cheap 260x, or better for £80 or so, used. Then, he'd still be stuck with a more entry level GPU option. Sure, if the 260x performance is going to be enough for what he's playing, an i3 would make more sense, but if he's playing more recent games that are more GPU dependent, 860k would perform better at this moment.

Wait, what?
"what if he doesn't earn that much?"
then it'll be longer before he can upgrade? Meaning he's stuck with the entry level GPU for longer, instead of a 380?
The i3 would be a better choice than the 860k. However, the 380 is a better choice than the 370. It pretty much comes down to OP now. He has the info to make his decision, if not, he can ask more questions. Both have their pro's and con's, both are going to be better in different situations.

the 370 still does the job and quite well
it's cheaper to upgrade a gpu than it is to upgrade a socket anyway.

That's not necessarily true. Although in OP's case, probably. The 370 is great for the price, but the 380 is better.

Just search "Windows" in the search bar on G2A. Get any 64 bit key. You should be able to upgrade to Win10 anyway if you want to.

all joking aside, the 370 will do a fine job, heck my 270X was running games fine at high..

The 270x out-performs the 370? 270x performance is irrelevant. The 370 "will do a fine job" in some cases, but doesn't compare to the 380. OP said his rig will be used for gaming. If he's playing stuff like FC4 and other similar titles, the 860k+380 gives him better performance right now, instead of in any future upgrades that we have no idea when could happen?

I think you should just get a PS2 then spend the rest on doritos and some mountain dew.
