I'm in investing $900 or so into a new gaming rig. I pretty much have all my parts picked out but I'm torn on what graphics card to get. I plan on playing games like DayZ and what not. I'm not too keen on running on ultra settings but would like at least 720p resolution. I feel like the 960 might be a little out-dated.. but have read nothing but good reviews on them, I'd like a more direct opinion. I'm just a little hesitant on spending $300 on a 970....

What parts have you picked out? The 960 is a poor choice IMO, unless you require NVidia/960 specific features. The 380 is around the same price, even a little cheaper, and better. However, you could quite easily fit an R9 390, or GTX 970 in to a rig with a $900 budget, which just makes sense IMO.

Also, a $900 gaming rig will definitely be running at 1080p, don't even expect 720p, that'd be ridiculous. It's 2015, not 2O1O. The 960 isn't out-dated, it's a new card, it's just a bad choice. Even the 950 would make more sense than the 960 IMO. It's a good bit cheaper and almost the same performance. A GTX 950 does not belong in a $900 rig though, IMO, unless you have peripherals and what not to get as well.

Don't buy a GTX960 for that budget.
