Hey guys i want to add more ram to my pc back when i built it i just added the 6gig from my old pc im going to buy another 4gig stick today and put it in. Just wondering if all that matters is the ddr? so if my motherboard is ddr3 will any ddr3 ram stick work or is there more to the compatibility? cheers

It may work, but is not recommended. Both sticks will operate at the spec of the lowest stick. There are always incompatibility es that can't be predicted also. You can try it, but I would just recommend a dual channel kit of two sticks of 4 or two sticks of 8.

If your motherboard supports DDR3 RAM then you will need a DDR3 DIMM (NOT an SO-DIMM). That's pretty much all there is to it in terms of compatibility (as long as your motherboard has enough DIMM slots to install the new RAM).

Just make sure that you are getting the same bran (to avoid incompatibility issues) and the same speed. If your current 6gb is 1600 Mhz and you then add 4GB of 1866 Mhz, your memory will run at the lowest frequency.

Apart from that, you should be good
