Hi guys!

I'm new to this forum and pc building in general so go easy on me

I am looking to build a PC and have acquired several parts already. What I plan to do is use my old Predator G5900 PC as the base, and install new components on to that. There are a few things I want to know.

I plan to play new games (witcher 3, fallout 4 etc) at 1920x1080 60fps. I already have a monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Predator G5900: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

What I have acquired and plan to install:

Graphics card: 1x MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX980TI 6GB GDDR5
RAM - 1x Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
PSU - EVGA Supernova 750W G1 Gold Modular Power Supply Unit
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master RR-212E-16PK-R1 Hyper 212 Evo
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K Processor (3.5 GHz, 6 MB Cache, LGA1150 Socket)

Questions:

1. Can I install these parts onto the G5900? If no, shall I buy a new case?

2. Do I need to buy a new motherboard to install these parts or will the G5900's motherboard do? If so, then I reckon (ASUS Z97-A - motherboard - ATX - LGA1150 Socket - Z97 - LGA1150 Socket) will do the trick.

3. Do I need to purchase case fans? If so, I was looking at getting (Corsair Air Series AF120-LED 120mm Quiet Edition High Airflow LED Fan - Red (Single Pack))

4. Are there any other parts I need to buy?

Let me know, I really appreciate the help and don't know where else to look!

First, you will have to buy that new motherboard because that current in your computer has a different socket type. Secondly, its up to you on whether you want to buy a new case the one you have should work. It looks like you have a gaming computer so it was meant to have decent cooling it might be in your best interest to get some new fans because the ones inside the case might be old. You shouldn't need to buy any other parts but you could also get a ssd to make your computer boot faster and use the hard drive that came with your system as a secondary drive

Thank you, I'll have to wait till January to get the new motherboard then. I might as well buy some fans when I order the MB since they're only like £10 each as well as an SSD.

I'll see how everything goes with what I listed + motherboard and fans and see if it all fits. If not, I'll have to get a new case. (G5900 case looks so cool though!)

I'll use the 500GB HDD that came with the G5900 since it has windows installed on it anyway, in January I'll buy a 250gb SSD for some of my games.

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it

I would recommend reinstalling your OS onto the SSD when you buy one. It makes the system considerably faster.

Okay, so I will install OS on the SSD when I get it as well as any games I wish to play frequently on (long load time ones like fallout 4 lol) And everything else on HDD!

Thanks for the tip

That case is most likely limiting, you could pick up something like a S340 or Enthoo Pro M for £50.

What is your budget for the whole build? You could get better components for the money.

I have already bought the GTX 980 ti, Corsair 8gb ram, EVGA 750w PSU and Cooler Master CPU cooler and Mod 1150 ASUS Z97-A ATX Motherboard.

I am waiting until January to order additional stuff (SSD, CPU and fans)

CPU processor I was hoping for Intel Core i7 i7-4790k. No real budget tbh, already paid a lot for what I have and am expecting around £400 for what else is needed. I am considering getting a new case actually, G5900 doesn't have space for exhaust/intake fans I don't think :O

Like above, I got GPU, CPU cooler, MOBO, RAM and PSU so far. Still need to get CPU, SSD and case fans (maybe box, still need to decide). Why do you ask?
