I'm considering upgrading my motherboard, this is something I haven't done before and am just wondering how difficult it is?

Obviously I would need to check my current parts etc are compatible with the motherboard I decided to go with.

But apart from that, is there much to it apart from re-connecting all of my parts and then installing the drivers etc?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

As long as all of your components are compatible, it isn't that difficult. The hardest part tbh would probably be re-mounting your CPU cooler, and for most coolers this isn't even difficult. You'll also have to check the manual or online for which front I/O headers you will need to use.

Is there any reason why your upgrading your motherboard. Normally, when people upgrade, it's a big component like the CPU or GPU since they are the grunt of the pc most of the time.

I don't know, just something I've thought about doing so.

Have an i7 processor and GTX 970 (Possibly a 980 TI in January) so there isn't really any reason for me two upgrade there.

Also with my current motherboard, I can only use one graphics card.

I'm not guaranteed doing it yet, just toying with the idea.

Your current motherboard is mATX, is your case mATX also? This would somewhat limit motherboard upgrade options.

How do you know my current motherboard lol?

My case is a Zalman Z5... I would probably upgrade this if I was getting a new motherboard as the front comes off easily when I catch it.

The quotes are strong in this thread.. Lol

You wouldn't need a new case to get an ATX motherboard, but an upgrade would be nice. I would get a nicer case and a MSI Z97 Gaming 5 or MSI Z97S Krait Edition.

Thats compatible with an Intel i7 processor isn't it?
