Its usually used for to retain information you learned through out the day. So your brain will put it into the long term memory part of the brain. Rather then the short term part. It sends the information through the brain which activated the learning cycle even at home . which is why we have quizzes and test to see not how smart you are but in a sense to see how much information you retained.

Its just to show that you can do the work by yourself, without any help.

Its also to help you approach problems differently by yourself, without a teacher telling you on how to do that problem.

If you cant do the homework, your not just going to give up, you are going to look at other resources by reaearching.

Because in later life work out of hours is required.
