Is it just me or are games not as good as they used to be?

Ive bought all the most recent big games like Halo 5, CoD: Black ops 3, R6: Siege, FIFA 16 and only one I actually like is FIFA. I thought Halo 5 would be a lot better then Halo 4 as I loved Halo 3 but I just cant get into it. Black ops 3 is okay. Its definitely a lot better then Ghost and AW But its just not very fun like how COD Used to be. Rainbow Six was decent but I expected a lot more. I used to play Vegas and Vegas 2 competitively but I just don't enjoy Rainbow six like I used to. They way they have classes could of been a lot different. I already have 90% of the operators unlocked. I just feel like games are not as good as they used to be.

It's just preference and is dependent on who makes the game...

Take Just Cause 3 for example, very new game, released this month, has been in development for a few years, it's a fantastically fun game that most people could put a few hundred hours into, CoD, been in dev for probably 18 months, has a playablility factor of zero.

But i suppose it's all personal preference on games now. But there are upsides to new games.

Better mechanics
Better Graphics
Better optimization
Multi platform

So there are both upsides and downsides to new games.

Developers are taking a step in a new direction, disregarding community opinions. Take infinity ward and Treyarch for example. Everybody loved their games but now they are changing things that people dislike.

In addition, like Tyler said it really depends on the developer and how much time is spent on the development process.

Personally I feel the same way, like the developers don't listen to what the community have to say

I honestly don't blame the developers half the time, everyone complains about something in a game, where if the developers were to listen to the community all the time, the game would become so patched or ruined, it wouldn't even be worth bothering. If you take a look at Sega, they pretty much stopped listening to their community because their community is so half-ass backwards it's unreal. Just going to give an example with what happened with that company.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, people started complaining that there were too many characters to play as, Sega listens and starts making games with less characters, people start complaining there's too little characters, they listen again and make one more game where there are multiple characters and stories to play, community once again complains there is too many characters and even goes as far as to say that is the worst game they have made (Sonic 06.) After that, Sega pretty much stopped listening to their community and did what they felt was right for their games, and it's been working out better. Call of Duty and a lot of other game titles have a much bigger fanbase than Sega, if those developers were to always listen to the community, things would be all over the place, to where the game becomes too horrible to even play or the developers begin to ignore the community.

OP: I have noticed games aren't what they used to be, but then again, I'm also putting in the age factor with things. A lot of games that I really enjoyed were when I was younger. Now that could have been that the games were just that good or that because I was younger, I was just excited to play the game, to beat it 100%, where as now, if a game doesn't interest me like I hope it would, I put it off for a while, if not forever. I will admit, some games have become rather repetitive over the years (CoD especially) but I truly think that a lot of the game I played, I enjoyed so much, was because I was younger and wasn't as expecting as I am now, even if the game was bad, I would still play it out and even try to complete it 100%.

honestly, id rather play a simple first person shooter like cod 4 with improvements like more guns, added game types, more maps, and better graphics with 60fps.

I blame life.

Really though. When I was like 8 I could go pick a game out of a bargain bin and as long as the cover looked cool I had hours of fun with it. At least for me, I have expectations for games that come out now, especially if I'm spending $60 of my hard earned money on it. I think gaming in general has become stale, too many developers do the same old things that sold them copies in the past. Maybe I'm just becoming old and senile but gaming has become less fun as the years pass.
