Today I got a letter from my great aunt (grandma's sister) that's a little too personal to be putting on the internet, but it was about a certain family argument. A couple weeks ago she came out to our house to visit with my grandma (we are her care takers), my mom is doing what ever she does, my dad is off in Philadelphia at work, my brother is off at a training center, and I'm out in the back yard playing with the dogs.

I guess my grandma went to her bedroom to get dressed or something, but my great aunt came out and the first words out of her mouth weren't the normal "Hi, how are you?" Or "Hello", but rather, "don't you think you should take those dogs to the kennel and put the other one down?". Where the hell did that come from?

I asked her why she thinks our lab should be put down and she said the last time she came out (4th of July) he had a seizure. I explained that was almost 5 months ago, and she come back with how it hurts the dog, and blah blah blah. I seen she clearly wasn't going to see what is really going on so I said "You had a heart attack last year right? I bet that hurt, should we go ahead and put you down?" That one got her pretty upset so she was telling me how I'm ignorant and went back to telling me how we should give our 2 GSD's to the shelter.

As if I need to explain myself, I tell her how our dogs have a wonderful life, they have the whole side of the house to play in and when they want to be warm they can just go in the garage, and they get ran 2 or 3 times a day. If their life was so terrible, don't you think they'd be trying to escape? My fence isn't put up the best (pics below), so if they wanted to get out because we are some terrible dog owners, they could. I then asked "speaking of bad dog owners, where is your dog?". When she came out she let her dog out to pee, my dogs are just playing out the yard paying no mind to us, and her dog took off. Turns out the pound found it and charged her a 300 dollar fee to get it out lol. The pound is literally 5 minutes walking distance down the road.

There are certain things you tell people, and certain things you don't/=. This is America, you can have your wonderful opinions, but if you haven't seen how they live and how we treat them in almost a half a year, and when you did see them it was only 2 hours max, you have no right to be telling us we should put one of our dogs down and put the other two in the pound. On top of that, why talk to me about it? I can't do anything, I'm just the kid, you talk about that crap to my parents.

I had one roll of 6' fence and a couple rolls of 4', so I just put some boards up on the 4' fence to make it about 6', I have since changed that though and put more fencing out so they have part of the driveway to play in as well. The poles are not cemented in the ground, just pounded in, and the fence is just zip tied to the poles and not stretched so they could very easily dig under it to get out if they really felt their life was that bad.

My wonderful GSD's:

Sounds like just a normal heated family argument.

I've sure said some tough stuff to the ones who I love in my time. But you sit down once you've all cooled off and talk about it.

I suggest doing that and seeing what happens from there.

I can see how people can be bitter to other people, but to a pet. Like really?

On that note, your dogs are beautiful and I hope they live long and healthy lives. GS are by far my favorite breed.
