It used to be that I would say this order is the best: 4 5 6 1 2 3
However, now that episode 7 has been released, it would have to be 4 5 6 7 1 2 3 and that just seems like far too many sequels to understand what happens in the prequels and how they fit into the original trilogy.

So this is the order I'd choose now: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Get the prequels out of the way at the start. Because they are going to be releasing two more films in the new trilogy, the old method would end up being: 4 5 6 7 8 9 1 2 3
And that's just too complicated.

there is so many different ways to watch it and alot of people argue about it and they say the best one seems to be the machete order which is 4,5,1,2,3,6,7 and for these reasons;

"Effectively, this order keeps the story Luke's tale. Just when Luke is left with the burning question "how did my father become Darth Vader?" we take an extended flashback to explain exactly how. Once we understand how his father turned to the dark side, we go back to the main storyline and see how Luke is able to rescue him from it and salvage the good in him. The prequel backstory comes at the perfect time, because Empire Strikes Back ends on a huge cliffhanger. Han is in carbonite, Vader is Luke's father, and the Empire has hit the rebellion hard. Delaying the resolution of this cliffhanger makes it all the more satisfying when Return of the Jedi is watched."

but id just watch them in release order the story really isnt to hard to figure out imo

Release order which is 4,5,6,1,2,3,7 or continuity order 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 or 4,5,2,3,6,7.

You can skip episode 1 because it is by far the worst and really doesn't do much for the story. In fact you could almost pretend 1,2,3 don't exist. They are pretty terrible bar a few scenes in each.
