Hi everyone, so two weeks ago I treated myself to the MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G, and I'm 100% sure I'm being bottlenecked by my CPU as I'm getting no where near the same FPS as other people with the same 970 (I've also tried to use Afterburner to OC, which gave no FPS difference at all), my CPU is a AMD FX4170 @ 4.5Ghz. I've done some research and I'm torn between the i5 4690K and the AMD FX8350 Black Edition, if I go for the i5 then I need to buy a new motherboard which is another £100 on top of the CPU, however it has better performance for gaming than the 8350. I also think if I'm going to buy a new motherboard I should buy the i7-4790k as I would be able to stream with no issues. I'd also like to get the H440 case as my current one is falling apart (pretty much) and has the worst airflow, but I wouldn't be able to get a new case and the i5/i7. What should I do? I'm in a real dilemma . FYI, I'm running games at 1080p only.

EDIT: Please take the H440 out of consideration.

Thank you bbn)

What is your budget for the upgrades? There is nothing wrong with the 4690k, but it is outdated and there is newer hardware out.

Around £400, I was looking at the Skylake i5's but then I need to get a more expensive motherboard and a whole new set of DDR4 RAM, which I'd rather not do when there is little to no performance difference between DDR3/4 at the moment. I've also decided to get the NZXT Source 210 ELITE, so you can ignore the H440 as it's not really needed for me, however I did like the fact you got 4 'silent' fans with the case. My PC is also hidden so there would be no benefit from having a window.

You can still fit it in budget with a H440;

You could consider a different case however as the 210 is a pretty low end one;

Not an unlocked chip, but you can still overclock it with a BIOS update, that is if you see any point in doing so.

Thank you, I'd rather not spend 400 if I don't have to, I think I'm not going to get a Skylake i5, as they're waay more expensive. Would you say the Enthoo Pro M is better than the 210?

Yes, the Pro M is a much better case. If you save £40 on the case, you are £50 below £400 and I really think that Skylake is the best option, upgrading to another AMD chip is pointless. Skylake is quite a big improvement over Haswell.
