I just ran out of xbox gold, if I set my home xbox as someone elses account who has gold, will I be sharing the gold with them?

YES, You can do this. I currently do this for an account I mod with - I use my account i typically use for gaming and non-modding purposes (Which has gold) and set it as my Home Xbox and now it's shared with my Modded Account - You can find more info over here > [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

To add on to what he said any account on the console that you create (Say a guest account) will also have gold. In other words any account on the console will be able to use the gold features.
