Best place to check is your BIOS for sure, but Core Temp has worked well for me.

No vsync and the games base fps tops out at 91 when not edited in the config files. And I would almost never drop under that prior to today.

That just sounds like poor PC port optimization to me. unless you've NEVER experienced drops like these in the past, slight still-above-60fps drops when there is a massive room of enemies or interactions with elements in the map could cause issues.

I would just make sure your drivers are up to date, there isn't any real problem other than the optimization. I would definitely invest in an SSD ASAP.

the game is several years old and was most likely designed to run on specific hardware. even though your PC sounds like it's great, there could still be issues.

example: you could have an insanely high-spec PC and find it difficult to emulate Gamecube or Playstation 2 games due to the difference in hardware.

It's just strange because I've played this map countless times and never experienced drops. But the PC port of Black Ops 1 is absolute garbage like majority of CoD games.

Is there a specific brand or size you'd recommend? Also what should I run off the SSD, just OS or some other things as well?

The Samsung 850 Evo is by far the best you can get for the price, 120GB is a bit small, 250GB/500GB are ideal sizes and they aren't too expensive either. If you wanted to spend a bit more, you could get an NVMe SSD, they are quite a bit more expensive but are oodles faster, The 950 Pro is pretty much the best you can get atm, but the smallest capacity it comes in is 256GB for ~£150 which is quite pricey, if not then you could get a 128GB SM951 for ~£70.

A friend of mine has a PNY 240GB that he is willing to sell me for 40 bucks. Would this be worth it or should I go with something else?

If you're not worried about the potential lifespan or warranty etc then go ahead, but the PNY SSD's aren't the best drives you can get.
