Really hoping you guys can come in clutch on this one. I'm currently using a monitor which has 1x HDMI and 1x RGB connector. I plan on buying the same monitor to run duals, but my graphics card only has 1x HDMI, 1x DVI-D, 1x DVI-I connectors. Would it be best to buy a DVI-I to HDMI connector? If I do so, will sound still play through speakers evenly, if the sound is techinically playing from one monitor?(DVI wiring does not contain sound)

Thanks

I don't see why that would be a problem. You still need audio though and dvi does not carry that.

Ideally this is what you would want. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

However DVI doesnt carry sound so unless your speakers are plugged into the motherboard via 3.5mm or a SPDIF connection you wont get sound.

So is your last sentence true if I'm still using a HDMI for one monitor?

I use two monitors for my pc setup.

Both DVI (and one monitor is also wired with an optical) the audio is fine with one monitor I have no issue. Resolution quality wise, you just got to make sure its fine.

If your monitor has speakers then using HDMI with one monitor will have sound but the other one wont as DVI doesn't carry audio.

But for external speakers, say connected through USB or audio jack, it shouldn't matter right?

Speakers should work as normal through USB/audio jack. You may have to switch default output in the playback settings though.
