R9 380.

Well he could recommend you an Nvidia GPU that will not perform as well as the ATI card and will either cost the same or even more. AMD isnt bad at all I myself have an AMR R9 390 8GB and well supposedly outperforms the 970 in most cases and is like $20-40 cheaper. Honestly the R9 380 would be your best bet unless you want a Nvidia card that really makes no difference besides more money and less performance or same price and less performance. Good luck OP

Could get a used GTX 970 for that, but the 380 is your best "New" option.

Actually in reality a 380 would be your best choice here. Compared to a 960, the 380's performance is slightly better then the 960 and sometimes even a 970. But if you are highly hateful of AMD and it's just a preference thing, then go ahead, it's your decision.

Hope it performs well because my current one is pretty crap and it is below minimum for some games that I want to play although I can still play them (derp)
