It's a related movie. Likely set after the events of Cloverfield which is why it takes place in a bunker.
The first movie was marketed in very strange ways too. As was Pacific Rim, which is set in the same universe.

Yeah, it was originally filmed as a standalone [called 'Valencia'] which was about a woman who is in a car crash and wakes up in an underground bunker with a man who says he saved her from a deadly virus.
But the company that filmed it went bust, so Paramount Pictures bought it and shot extra scenes to make it a Cloverfield sequel.
JJ Abrams has said that it isn't exactly a 'blood relative' to the original though, so it should be quite different.
