Hi here are a few ways to avoid yourself of being BANNED. Many of you may know that the daily cR cap is 60k, and by avoiding getting to 60k you run the lesser risk of being banned. Ex:50k-55k. Another key component to lower your risk of being banned is do NOT do a challenge more than 20 times. Ex: Daily challenge 1500cR, for challenges such as these you could do it 20 times and only get 30k credits, what people don't realize is that once you hit over 20 your basically hitting the cR cap and Bungie WILL check your account, thus most likely BANNING you. Also if challenges are "Multiplayer" challenges try to avoid them because there is a higher chance of being banned from "Multiplayer" challenges. Q: How do you know all of this ? A: I have 2 accounts, one is my smart account which I am very keen on not getting banned, my other account is my test account and that is how I have this data because I have tried a different approach on each account. ( Test account:Banned ) ( Good account:Lt.Colonel G3 ).

As for commendation boosting I am not sure on the status/chance of being banned. I have done many different commendations and gone from 0-Onyx in a day and still have not been banned for doing so.

Challenge boosting is by far the best/fastest way to earn cR, but there isn't always a challenge everyday that is compatible to boost with. So some days you just play regular games and when there is a good challenge, take advantage of it.
