There are only four ways of getting skins;

Buying them from the Community Market
Opening Cases
Getting Consumer-Grade skins from in-game drops
Or having them given to you

I normally hate to add to questions that have been answered but I feel I should. Everything people have said so far is good but I would like to make a few recommendations. I would recommend you don't open cases and instead use that money to just buy what you want. I don't know if you know who tweeday is but he just livestreamed a special event in which he opened cases until he got a knife. Took him over 700 cases to get a knife worth a fraction of what went into getting it. Community market is an ok place to get items but you should look into opskins. Prices can often be way lower than the items on market and you can save a lot of money. You will have to go through an identification process before you can begin making purchases but it's worth it. It's also a good and safe way to sell skins and get money for them.

^ He's right I spent 80 dollars worth of cases about a week ago only to get all blues except 2 purples ft, and pink bs. While my friend opens like 10 cases and gets 2 knives. It gives you a rush to open something thats worth more than what you pay but in the end it's actually a really low chance.

The only easy way to get skins, is to purchase them from the market, or open cases(Bad idea) When you play games, you get some drops from the server, and you either get skins or cases. The skins themselves aren't usually valuable, but sometimes you can get a rare item.
