So I sold a bunch of stuff on eBay and some guy decided to chargeback and stupidly PayPal let him get away with it since I couldn't provide proof of shipping (It was virtual items so there was no physical delivery). Long story short I now have a balance of -£129 and currently have no way of paying it. PayPal has my bank account, full name and address, mobile number and debit card details. Luckily I never gave them photo ID or SSN number which they have been pestering me about for months.

So just out of curiosity I wanted to know what would happen if I cant/wont pay it. As of right now I physically cant as I'm unemployed and don't have the money. Some have said that if I leave it they will just constantly contact me with threats but will eventually just write it off and ban everyone under the same address from using PayPal. Others have told me that debt collectors etc will get in contact with me and I'll be forced to pay up.

Just want to see if anyone else has had some previous experience with this and would be happy to share there story? Thanks!

They will usually send you to the collections department. I owe eBay $98 in "fees" for almost a year now. You will get called about twice a day for 6 months, I usually told them to go away in a much meaner tone. They could attack your credit score but since you haven't provided SSN and Photo ID that's unlikely. Just expect calls and troll the collectors when they do call. Oh and a few letters in the mail, send them a few pebbles with the provided return postage.

In the end probably nothing except you can't use PayPal again unless you open a new account or pay your balance.

Just expect a lot of phone calls and emails. Maybe even mail.

Thanks guys, the phone calls and emails I can deal with I jus hope not much mail is sent! I will probably pay it back over time it's jst right now I cant :/

They can try but there is no money in my bank for them to take :p

I've had -£90 in an old paypal for 1year and about 3-5months now. Sold a half broken xb1 for that price, he charged back saying it was broken. Stupidly enough paypal didn't think I did put broken in the title.

I've never been contacted to pay it off. I've never given them ssn, photo id, any sort of id, nor my real address and theres no credit/bank/debit cards in there either. I'm fine, never been forced or had any calls.

You can't get forced to pay the amount owed. It's close to impossible as you don't owe them money as it was never there money in the first place.

Yeah true, I didn't read the entire thread post so I got it wrong... but yes.. if it was never PayPal's own money then you should be fine. No need to pay anyting.

Correct. It can't be paypal's money as they are acting as of a middleman passing through items. It works the same as a proxy. But with items and money

You may just have to pay it back. If you have provided your SSN to PayPal, they may be able to hurt your credit score, which is not good at all.
