So I was wondering if any of you have gone through depression and any tips you would have to help people that are going through it out.

one of my best friends confessed to me that she has depression and suicidal thoughts and (to be honest) I've been feeling the same way but I hate talking about it so Im just planning on trying to help her out. It kills me to see someone in any sort of pain. So if any of you have any help I can maybe pass on to her. Thanks

well honestly i believe you should sit them down and talk to them first, talking about your problems always helps. Tell them to get away from the things that are making them depressed & tell them to find a hobby to take their mind off things. If nothing works they may need to see a doctor to get prescribed depression medicine.

I told her that I'm always here for her, she kind of hit with the a curveball because she is the happiest girl I've ever met then one day she told me she wanted to die and do all of this shit, Every day since she has told me I've asked her if things were ok but like she doesn't wanna talk about it I guess, I don't want her to keep these feelings kept in cause I know how it feels to do that, but I also don't want to bug her about it. I'm kind of lost at this point

well man honestly then i believe you should either find out what the root of all this is or just tell her you think she should see a doctor man. If she's a good friend don't give up on it because depression is a horrible thing & it can start to eat at you.

Honestly, I have had depression since I was 8 years old due to bullying and as I went through my teens it only got worse. I have been in and out of mental hospitals and have been baker acted about 4 times due to OD's and a Slit Wrist. It's not fun. But the only thing that has made me okay is being by myself and sticking by close friends and doing what I love. I only hangout with 4 people. If I am not with them I'm alone. I've started coping with it. I always thought more friends would make me happy but the less I have, The less people I have to worry about saying things behind my back. So tell this person to try to do so, It helps. If it does not and it gets worse, Ask her if she wants to go to get help from a therapist, They can prescribe anti depression meds and they actually help you get through a lot.

I have strong social anxiety and a little bit of depression, if you are in the uk then give the youth counselors a call or cams and they will help her and you through it. I have seen both and they honestly help a lot.
If you wanted to you could call child line about how you feel and how your friend feels.

I couldn't find cams or the youth counselors website.

It really depends on why they are depressed. Talking about it, doctors, and prescribed medication are some of the common ways of dealing with it. Even just eating better and exercising can help. I've been to doctors and have taken medication, but they did nothing for me. It still hits me like a bus from time to time. It's one reason I played video games so much. It passes the time while also keeping my mind on something else. Being in those worlds kept me out of my own. Sad/depressing music also helps me. If I am going to be depressed, I may as well listen to sad music and get through it. I usually get through it quicker with the music; though, that type of music could potentially be bad to some people. It could make them feel worse. Maybe some happy music? Having friends around does help. It may not solve the problem though. Just being there is all you can do really.

Depression is a mental issue. Drinking and drugs are mind altering substances. It can be seen as a Band-Aid to the problem. I think it depends on the person's financial situation as well. Going to doctors to get medication or even just to talk is not cheap as far as I am aware. Finding other ways to try to fix the problem is to be expected in that type of situation.

Depression and anxiety is a horrible feeling.
Talking to people and letting a lot of stuff of your chest helps, from myself personally I know what I feels like. I used to have to see a counselor every week to speak about my problems. She would reassure me anything is possible in life, money was a huge issue for my family but things are slowly picking up.

Hope everything goes well.
