Man dont do it over text. If youre gonna ask her out, text her and ask to meet up with her somewhere and do it in person. Trust me, asking over text is a horrible idea.

Change it to "Do you want to go on a date" and you should be cool OP. You don't want to be her friend and just "hang out" so leave no room for interpretation (especially as meaning is largely lost over text)

honestly just be confident and be yourself. ask her in person if she seems like she is into you because she will respect it that much more. as for your text, i wouldnt be a good advocate for knowing if that is lame phrasing or not, but it definitely does sound a little different being from hawaii. (that last part is probably just me) go get em' bud.
