right i tried windows video converter but im not buying it for like £39 or something like that

so what is a good program that is free

You should try VLC, it's a great video player (it can play most video formats) and it can also convert videos to widely used formats.

What exactly do you need to do with a video converter? do you need to change the container of the video to another one? Do you need to change the codec to a different one?

If you need to re-encode it, use Handbrake.
