Nine times out of ten, if you've heard it on the radio before it has a solid copyright. A large majority of the time almost anyone who produces music has some form of copyright, and even if they don't it's still a good idea to ask permission from the person before using their music. In my opinion it's kind of rude to use people's stuff without permission, but most people will be pretty chill about you using their stuff if you ask first.
