How do you counter Garen? I can't do a single thing to him when I play top. I have tried building more damage than him but it didn't work for me. I tried to build more armor than him and that didn't work for me either. I have tried harassing him in the beginning of the game and I still could not beat him.
Could someone please tell me some ways on how I can beat this champ? I just hate Garen so much.

Who are you playing? Ranged champs work wonders against him early on, you cant stop his inevitable tankiness but you can stop him from farming and xp early on. That'll slow him down for a bit. Quinn is nice and Graves used to be good against him pre nerf. Or you can play someone like Olaf, matches his tankiness and has nice true damage.

I do enjoy using Olaf but I haven't used him recently. I also don't ever know if I am going against a Garen until the game starts so I can't strategically choose someone that will counter him. Is there an item that I can start building that can negate his armor a little better? I know I can get a lot of armor penetration if I start building last whisper, but is that a good idea?

If you're squishy, you can build Lord Dominikks Regards, which is an upgrade to Last Whisper, and that gives you the bonus armor penetration from LW but also gives you extra damage based on how much more health they have than you.

If you're playing Blind Pick then you won't ever be able to counter the enemy top laner. Just play who you are doing the best with.

Ranged champs top are beautiful. Learn to play them. You just need to bully Garen early on to slow him down.
