Oh and your provider might be doing some maintainance therefore resulting in drops if the Internet is newly set up let it set for 10 days so the provider can shift speeds and find the right match for you, also try holding the refresh button on your router if you have one then or try to unplug the router for about 10 seconds then switch it back on to reset it.

How is it ridiculous? I get 200 and it's awesome. I never lag, my pages open instantly, it's so much less stressful.
40 or 50 is like what my wifi is haha.

Many factors to account for with this problem so if you could give us the answers to the following;
Are you connected wireless or wired?
If wireless what device are you using, WiFi card/dongle? Powerline adapters?
What is your ISP?
Are other devices using the Internet as well?
Are programs running in the background downloading or using Internet?

Damn that's an insane amount, lol, but to answer your question when I get huge drops there's really nothing I could do to fix it on my own, I would have to call my provider so I think you should do the same.

Number of problems:
1. Time of day can affect your internet mainly at peak times.
2. Don't forget it's not just you who uses the same "WIFI Channel"
3. Wireless can affect your Internet speeds because a lot of things can interrupt. Examples: Baby Monitors, Microwave,House Phones, Loads of devices.
4. Sometimes it can be just what you are using, Computer, phone, laptop. so try a speedtest on each device to test.
How to fix:
Try Restarting your router/modem or unplug all wires & wait 1 minute.
Change your wireless channel by going through you router/modem settings through your modems IP Address.
Get in touch with you ISP as they can tell if theirs a problem with your line or your connection between you and them.

im on a wired connection using a cat 5 cable and im with virgin media and I no to some people it might seem fast but to me is awfully slow lol. and I think we might need a new modem I think it is as it is getting old. and its one of them ones where if you disconnect it , its a pain as it takes forever to work again.
