it makes me mad that people choose to not have mics
You basically answered your question
they are cheap
Yes, that why they make horrible noises for the PS4 Mics. PS4 mics always been that way or should I say Sony Mics. Nobody plugs in the mics because they know every time someone speaks it rattles.
I would prefer to use a XB1 mic because they're better than the PS4 mics but not that good. They still break with time when you use them.
Note: I play better without using a mic not sure why? I think I'm used to playing games without a mic. If I play with friends then I plug my mic in but otherwise no.

you tend to play better when you aren't focusing on playing and talking at the same time.

Well if i'm really honest, what annoys me more is random people talking in game chat.

No, I understand that randoms are usually annoying. I mean like playing destiny or the division, where you need to communicate is where I have the issue

Ah right, well tactically yes. Nobody can just hop into a game not knowing what to do and learn from there.
For example when I play World of Warcraft *don't judge its my fav game* raid teams always have to communicate or else the raid... well, will just fail. Same goes with anything in this game which requires a team.
So from that I can grasp an understanding of what you mean yes (and it's bloody annoying when people don't have the 'ability' to communicate).

I used to have the same thinking mentality as you but honestly, now I don't even use my mic or even care for it. I just play just to play.

It's certainly frustrating, however, there are a ton of players out there who just "play to play" and do not care about winning or communicating with others.
When I used to play, my mic would always be in. It made the game a more fun and enjoyable experience by communicating with friends/teammates.

Does it really matter? Some people prefer to not use a mic when playing with people that they don't know.
