Yes I'm aware this is somewhat old news now, but for those who aren't aware yet, Jagex is planning on selling Runescape to a Chinese mining company.

From what I've seen, Jagex seem pretty on-board with the whole thing which kinda sucks because I've played the game on-and-off since 2004 and would really hate the game to totally die out.
So, I was wondering what the players thought of this?

Wasn't the company planning to buy Jagex as a whole? If that is in fact the case we wouldn't see much of a difference since it'd mostly be the same team working on things.

From what I've heard, it's only the game and not Jagex as a whole, which sucks. That's what I was thinking though. Welp, let's hope those miners don't end up mining our pockets for that gold. ://

From what I've read [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] they are planning to buy the studio and not just rights to the game itself, meaning we probably won't notice much change at all. It'll most likely be like when Microsoft bought Mojang. Same people working, just different people collecting the money. Obviously this Chinese company won't go crazy destroying the game because they would have just invested $300m into it.

An older thread, but I would like to post on this to bring it up again, as far as I know there hasn't been much progression on this so far but I wonder what is going to come of it. I enjoy Runescape and possibly a new acquisition can allow the game to grow even further, but at the same time it worries me as it could be a death towards the game.

As long as they keep Old School polls for updates and don't introduce pay2win stuff I'll be happy. I've played RS3 a little bit so I'm not sure what to expect with them.
