Recently my old graphics card has come to an end and I want to buy something better. Old one was R9 Radeon 285.

What happened to the 285, did it die?

We'll need to know what case, and PSU you're using to suggest a GPU. Both the make and model of the case and PSU.

Buuut, for that price point can't go wrong with a 970.

PC simply turned off whilst I was in-game and black screen after that, no sign of any GPU in dxdiag/device manager/bios.

Definitely buy a new PSU, that one isn't even efficiency certified which is a big nono.

If the budget is £250, then you can't fit a 970 and a new PSU in. I wouldn't get a 970 without a new PSU, so all you could really do is get a 380 (a rebranded 285) and a PSU.

That Be Quiet PSU is fine, will not need to be replaced. In which case, your best choice is a 390, or a 970;

The only reason to get the 970 is if you require an NVidia specific feature, or have an NVidia bias. The efficiency of the cards is irrelevant, as you can power both. However, when it comes to the 970 vs 390, it's pretty much 6 or half a dozen.

bought R9 390 however the PSI chip is on the different side than my motherboard.. Can someone suggest me a similar graphics card that IS suitable for my case?

What do you mean by PSI Chip? The card is compatible.
