The human body is like a machine, just because one cog stops working in the machine, doesn't mean that the whole machine will stop. If your legs don't work, your body will still pump blood through them to keep the cells healthy. The only reason that you're "there" is because your brain is alive and working.

As for the soul thing, take a healthy and extremely intelligent thirty year old man, let's say he's In a car accident and gets brain damage. He will not think or behave the same way as before. But surely his soul is the same? Of course not, I highly doubt that there's a soul, if you die, you die.

You return to the place you was before you was even conceived which may be something you can experience or it might be nothing depending on your religious beliefs but it's nothing to fear as it's inevitable

The fact that you use the word "soul" indicates your belief in God. What happens to us after we die, well nobody knows for sure. After all, you're dead and can't tell others what you saw. A great man once said, "You're not going to know you're dead because you'll be dead." I have to agree with this statement because it's true. Not only are you going to be dead, but your brain will start to decompose. You're brain is what creates thought, imagination, dreams, and etc, so once your brain goes, you go.

Last September I was in a terrible car accident and died once on scene and once in the ICU, from my personal experience there is nothing. Just black with a humming noise. But in another note I don't have the greatest memory of it all, I just remember the humming. But in my opinion I believe there is something. Those processes use energy to function. They aren't made 'of' energy.
The body regulates the energy we need for those processes to function. If the body dies those functions don't get the energy they require to function, the logical conclusion from that is that they also stop functioning.

Nothing happens after death you get buried or cremated and thats it, It sounds horrible saying that but its true.
