Couldn't this be the same with Elvis or Rock & Roll era? When Elvis first started adults thought that it was horrible, but yet the kids listened to it, liking the more rebellious concept of it and the Rock & Roll era took off. Even today people still listen to it, but at the time it was largely controversial.

Vsauce has a really good point about how taste is subjective and that even the classics throughout time were first met with disdain for they sounded lazy compared to other music/books at the time.
I love classic rock / heavy metal and swing so I am one of the people who doesn't much care for pop music...but that's OK, I accept that it's there to stay and while I personally think it's garbage to my ears I've lost all the anger I once had towards it.

I couldn't agree more to this. I don't understand what's with the song lyrics nowadays.

I'm 16 and I listen to music from the 50s to 80s. I don't tell people though because I'd be judged, especially because of how braindead and self-centered the kids in my town are. All the white boys who have rich parents and are on the varsity sports teams are listening to rappers and wishing they were from the hood. They're always trying to act like they'll go out and shoot someone for talking shit but in reality they'd have their daddy sue. Yeah, I listen to artists such as Logic, Cam Meekins, Jon Bellion, but I don't mess with Drake and Future and all them. I listen to a few songs by Fetty Wap simply because of the way it sounds, I can't relate to the lyrics.
