hey guys so ive just got a new computer and just started learning how to use photoshop and stuff but when i add text or a shape it wont let me put the shape any other colour other than black white and grey, can anyone help me please im sure its something pretty simple

To add on to Pish:

If you are planning on saving these files digitally make sure you use a high resolution and make it 32bit
Then when you export it, export it as a .png

I use 72 for the resolution. 300 max, for printing.

And I keep it at 8bit.
Although to be quite honest I'm not entirely sure what the bit size even changes.

Bit changes the color depth.
the more bits the bigger the range of colors
