I'm trying to decide between an Asus mg279q and the Dell S2716DG but I can't pick between the two. The Dell has a 1ms response time, and G-sync but is a TN panel. The Asus is an IPS with a 4ms response time but doesn't have G-sync. Both IPS and g-sync are equally important so it's really hard to pick between them. I plan on getting a gtx 1080 so freesync on the asus doesn't matter

I'd get one of these instead;

Nice IPS 4K panel. TN panels just aren't worth buying IMO. G-Sync is just a waste of money IMO. Nice 4k IPS panel is cheaper than the Dell 1440p TN panel. 4K is a much more logical resolution for a GTX 1080 IMO.

I do want to get a 4K panel in the (hopefully) near future but not right now. I want to be able to max pretty much anything out at at least 60fps with a single card. And 4K monitors as of right now don't have any features I want in a monitor. Once they make a 4K monitor that's ips, 144hz and a 4ms response time I'll get it and another card. I hate playing at under 60fps on less then high settings plus 60hz feels so horrible and sluggish after I've played on a 144hz panel for so long. It's almost unbearable

I'd suggest the Asus IPS panel then but they're having some real qc issues at the moment and be prepared that you may need to return it to get a 100% working panel without any issues, buy from amazon and return through them, I'd imagine the Dell panel won't suffer with these issues as they're a lot better on qc.

I have the mg279q, i have 3-4 dead pixels and backlight bleed..guess it's standard for these monitors.
Really good monitor for the price though.

3-4 dead pixels on a new monitor isn't good and you should really get it returned.

Thought Asus will only accept it back if there's a certain amount of dead pixels

Response time is pretty much irrelevant, pay no attention to it, unless it's ridiculously high, like double digits. The vast majority of monitors you see are 8ms and less response time, which is fine. Go 1440p instead of 4k if you really wish, I just wouldn't invest in G-Sync and I wouldn't buy a TN panel at all. You could take a look at some Korean monitors(QNIX, X-Star etc). Also, keep in mind that you can overclock your monitor, I got one of my 1080p panels to like 80Hz pretty easily.

the response time is important to me because I frequently play fps games like counterstrike and battlefield where it really makes a difference

Response time doesn't make much of a difference as you may think it does
