Actually, in theory, you can't use any amount of a copyrighted song before you may get flagged for copyright...
For example, I wanted to use 9 seconds of Simon and Garfunkel's ''sound of silence'' under some footage of an in-game hostage scene... I uploaded my video and before it had finished processing, I got the alert to say it matched third party content and I obviously could not monetize the video either.
So now I only use 'royalty free' or 'creative commons' music in my videos...
There are some 'fair use' rules that come into play, but I want an easy life, so...
For example, I wanted to use 9 seconds of Simon and Garfunkel's ''sound of silence'' under some footage of an in-game hostage scene...
