probably a pretty dumb question but, if i decide to join the navy instead of going straight to college what do i do about the federal pell grants i have received.

I'd call up the place you got the grant from. I've heard (though I'm not sure) that some will have you return it imediatly, and others will let you wait X time until you join or don't join.
